Water Softener Not Using Salt? Diagnose It
If a water softener stops using salt, the most common cause is a salt bridge — a hardened crust of salt arching across the brine tank with empty space underneath. Water flows in but never touches the salt, so no brine forms, and the resin can't regenerate.
