This Privacy Policy explains how Dome (the iOS app and the marketing website at domehomeapp.com) handles your information. Dome is developed and operated by Back After Sento, an independent app developer based in Japan ("we," "us," or "our").
We built Dome to be private by design. The short version: the Dome app does not collect your personal information, and we have no access to the contents of your home data. The marketing website has one optional point of collection — the "Stay in the loop" email form — which is described in detail below.
The short version
- The Dome app does not collect, store, or have access to your personal information.
- We do not run servers that receive your home data. Your data lives on your device.
- If you subscribe, your data can sync through your own Apple iCloud account, which is governed by Apple's privacy terms — not ours. We cannot see it.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or marketing tools.
- On our website, if you opt in by submitting the "Stay in the loop" form, we store your email so we can send you Dome updates. That is the only personal information we collect, and only if you submit it. See "Website and email updates" below.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information with anyone.
What data Dome stores, and where
When you use Dome, you create data such as your home and item names, maintenance tasks and their history, notes, photos you add, parts and manuals you record, and your in-app preferences.
This data is stored locally on your device.
If you are a subscriber, this data may also be synced to your own private Apple iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. This sync happens between your devices through Apple's infrastructure. We do not operate this infrastructure, we are not sent a copy of your data, and we cannot access the contents of your iCloud data. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
For free users, a very small piece of technical information (such as whether a shared home's owner has an active subscription) may sync through iCloud so that shared homes work correctly. This contains no personal information about you and no contents of your home data.
Information we do not collect
The Dome app does not collect or transmit any of the following to us or to any third party:
- Your name, phone number, or account credentials
- Your email address — except in the single, opt-in case of the "Stay in the loop" form on our website, described under "Website and email updates" above. The app itself never asks for or sends us your email.
- Your device location
- Your contacts
- Analytics, usage statistics, or behavioral data
- Advertising identifiers or tracking data
- The contents of your home, items, tasks, notes, or photos
The Dome app does not require you to create an account with us. There is no login system. Our only user-facing database is the email list described above, which contains nothing but emails you have voluntarily submitted (plus the anti-abuse metadata noted in that section).
Photos
If you add a photo to an item, that photo is stored on your device and, for subscribers, in your own iCloud account along with your other data. Photos are never uploaded to us or to any third party.
Scanning
Dome may let you scan a label or model number to help fill in item details. This scanning happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device technology. No image or scan data is sent to us or to any third party.
Notifications
Dome uses local notifications to remind you about maintenance tasks. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. They are not sent through any server and do not transmit information about you.
Sharing a home
If you subscribe, Dome lets you share a home with other people (for example, your partner or housemates) using Apple's built-in sharing technology (CKShare). When you share a home:
- The people you invite are identified by their own Apple iCloud accounts.
- Sharing is handled through Apple's infrastructure. We do not see who you share with or what is shared.
- The people you invite can view and update the shared home. We do not control or monitor this activity.
You can stop sharing or remove participants at any time from within the app.
Subscriptions and payments
Dome offers optional paid subscriptions and a one-time purchase. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details, credit card information, or billing address. Apple's handling of your purchase information is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.
We receive only the anonymous subscription status that Apple provides (whether a subscription is active), which the app uses to enable paid features. This is not linked to your identity by us.
Website and email updates
The Dome website at domehomeapp.com is a static marketing site. It does not use analytics, advertising, tracking cookies, or third-party marketing tools.
The site has one optional point of personal data collection: the "Stay in the loop" form, which you can use to ask us to email you about Dome. Submitting the form is entirely your choice. You can browse and read every article on the site without submitting anything.
What we collect when you submit the form
- The email address you enter.
- The date and time of your submission.
- A short, irreversible hash of your IP address (the first 16 characters of a SHA-256 hash), used to detect repeated abuse of the form. We do not store your raw IP address.
- The user-agent string your browser sends with the request (e.g., "Mozilla/5.0…"), used for the same anti-abuse purpose.
Where it lives
Submissions are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database that we operate as part of our website hosting. They are not shared with any third-party marketing or email-list service.
What we do with it
We use your email only to send you occasional updates about Dome itself — for example, when the app becomes available, when major features ship, or when we make material changes to this policy. We do not sell, rent, share, or use your email for any other purpose, and we do not use it for marketing of products other than Dome.
How to unsubscribe or have your email deleted
You can ask us to remove your email at any time by replying to any email we send, or by contacting us at the address at the bottom of this page. We will delete your record from our database promptly.
Retention
We keep submitted emails until you ask us to delete them, or until we decide we no longer need the list (for example, after a launch announcement campaign is complete and we have moved to an opt-in app-based notification channel).
Diagnostics
If you have enabled "Share With App Developers" in your device's iOS settings, Apple may share aggregated, anonymized crash and diagnostic reports with us through App Store Connect. This is a feature provided and controlled by Apple, not by Dome. These reports help us fix bugs and do not identify you. You can turn this off in your device's privacy settings at any time.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data is stored on your device (and, for subscribers, in your own iCloud account), you are in control of it.
- To delete your data, delete it within the app or delete the app from your device.
- For subscribers, you can also remove Dome's data from your iCloud account through your device's iCloud settings.
- You can export your data at any time from within the app. Export generates a file on your device; nothing is transmitted to us.
Because we do not hold your data, we cannot delete it on your behalf — but you can delete all of it yourself at any time using the methods above.
Children
Dome is not directed to children and is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, this applies to all users regardless of age.
Your rights
For everything inside the Dome app, we do not collect or hold your personal information, so most data-rights requests do not apply on the app side — there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete. You remain in full control of your data on your own device and in your own iCloud account.
If you submitted the "Stay in the loop" form on our website, the email address (and the anti-abuse metadata) we hold for that submission is subject to standard data-rights requests. You may ask us to:
- Confirm whether we hold your email and, if so, what other fields are associated with it.
- Correct or update your email.
- Delete your record.
Contact us at the address at the bottom of this page for any of these. We do not require identity verification beyond access to the email account in question.
California residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you certain rights regarding your personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA. The only personal information we collect is the email address (and limited anti-abuse metadata) of users who opt in to our "Stay in the loop" form. You can request access, correction, or deletion of that record at any time using the contact address below.
Residents of Japan
In accordance with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), we confirm that we do not acquire, hold, or use personal information through the Dome iOS app. The only personal information we hold is the email address of users who voluntarily submit the website "Stay in the loop" form, used solely to send Dome updates. We do not provide personal information to third parties.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — for example, if we introduce optional analytics or new features that involve data collection — we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Any future data collection will be optional and clearly disclosed.
